Description
Organic Savory. Satureja montana.
This organic Savory is a perennial species also known as winter savory or mountain savory. It grows to about 30cms tall.
How to grow:
You can sow from March to September, prick out when large enough and plant out from May onwards. If you sow a tiny pinch into a module then you can transplant the modules as they are into the ground and several modules work together well in a bed.
Problem solving:
Savory germinates in the light so you need to surface sow and be very careful never to let the surface of the compost dry out until they are established.
Favourite ways to eat it:
Use it to season meat, fish or soups and stews. Add it to oil to infuse for using in your salads or to saute vegetables, and add to vinegar for flavour. Harvest when it gets tall enough to cope with it.
Cultural history:
This species is native to the warm areas of southern europe, the mediterranian and Africa. Source Wikipedia.
