Organic Cauliflower: Neckarperle. Brassica oleracea var. botrytis.

Organic Cauliflower: Neckarperle has pure white, high domed flowerheads. They can be harvested over June/July and September/October.
The green foliage which protects the flowerheads can also be eaten, cauliflower greens are some of the tastiest brassicas around!

How to grow:
Sow indoors from February to April, or outdoors April and June for harvest June and July or September and October. Happy in cool temperatures.

Problem solving:
Usual slug and pigeon problems when young, and caterpillars in summer, keep well weeded and cover them with enviromesh or something like it. Likes fertile ground, and to be feed well.

Favourite ways to eat them:
There are so many ways to eat lovely cauliflower! Use it as a vegan rice, scrummy in a curry, good pickled or chop it up and add to a stir fry for a nutty flavour.

Cultural history:
Cauliflower likely arose in the Mediterranean region as a result of selective breeding, possibly from broccoli. It derives its name from the italian cavolfiore meaning ‘cabbage flower’ but the ultimate origin comes from the Latin words caulis (cabbage) and flōs (flower).
