Description

Organic Herb Dill. Anethum graveolens.

Annual delicious smelling herb. Tall plants with beautiful feathery foliage and yellow umbellifer flower heads later in summer. Planting it around the garden can deter greenfly. A good source of nectar and pollen for bees.

How to grow:
Best sown in situ April to July once frosts have passed and soil temperatures have started to rise, or earlier from March under protection. Sow into a well prepared, weed free seed bed.

Problem solving:
Young plants can be a favourite of slugs.

Favourite ways to eat them:
Popular addition to fish dishes. The seeds are often used for making sauerkraut or pickles. The leaves are delicious in oil and drizzled over fresh boiled potatoes.

Cultural history:
Native to Eurasia it has been found in Egyptian tombs, 1,400 BC.
