Description
Organic Herb Oregano. Origanum vulgare.
Annual delicious smelling herb. Plants with soft foliage reach about 30cms. A good source of nectar and pollen for bees.
How to grow:
Best sown in situ May to July once sil temperatures have started to rise, or earlier from March under protection. Sow into a well prepared, weed free seed bed. Happy enough in partial shade.
Problem solving:
Not really any problems, just as with any young plants keep slugs off.
Favourite ways to eat them:
Popular addition to pizza and other tomato based dishes. Traditionally the oil is used as a food suppliment and for medicinal purposes.
Cultural history:
Native to the Mediterranean and north Africa it is a member of the mint family. It is a different plant to Marjoram!
