Description
Organic Peanuts. Arachis hypogaea.
Organic Peanuts. The original monkey nuts.
How to grow:
Keep the seeds/nuts in the shell right up until sowing. When you are ready, break open the outer shell to get to the individual nuts. Start under cover in pots in March on a little heat. Sow to a depth of 1-2cms  and protect from mice etc.
Plant out or direct sow at 20cms apart once the soil has warmed up and all danger of frost has passed. Grow in a polytunnel/greenhouse if you have one.
Harvest as soon as the stems wilt and allow to dry for 1-2 weeks before contuning to process.
Problem solving:
Peanuts need sandy soil, grow on slightly raised mounds in rows.
Favourite ways to eat them:
Bake or roast the nuts before eating.
Cultural history:
This variety is originally from northern Italy so it can cope with relatively cooler growing temperatures.
Avg contents:Â 5 nutlets, each containins 2 or 3 nuts/seeds.
