Description

Organic Squash: Red Kuri. Cucurbita pepo.

Organic Squash: Red Kuri. Fruit size from 1 – 2 kgs with good storage ability. It takes about 100 days to mature, producing many fruits.Excellent cropping Hokkaido variety, with heavy fruit. Very tasty and even the skin is edible.

How to grow:
Sow seeds in pots on heat in April/May. Grow on until there are three true leaves then plant out in the ground when there’s no chance of a frost. Covering with fleece offers some protection if you get caught out. Plant 80cms apart and keep well fed and watered, preferably from below.

Problem solving:
Keep slugs off when young. They can get mildew on the leaves so planting in full sun helps this. Remove any badly affected leaves as soon as possible.

Favourite ways to eat them:
Very versitile in the kitchen, it can be added to soups, stews and great in peanut butter curry. You can bake wedges in the oven – drizzle with oil and season. Hollow out, stuff with lots of veggie delights and bake. They have a creamy texture with a delicious, slightly nutty flavour when cooked.

Cultural history:
This creeping vine in the cucurbitaceae family originates from India and has been cultivated for 1,000’s of years.

Avg contents:  10 seeds.
