These big plants are mixed red and yellow flowered plants. These big sunflowers can grow up to 2 meters high. The big black seeds are edible and can be picked from end of September. They are an excellent plant for bees and the birds love the seeds.

How to grow:
Sow seeds in modules under cover in from March to May. Once they’re about 7-8″ tall plant outside or in large pots in a sheltered place outside. Feed well.

Problem solving:
Being tall the wind can knock them over so you can help them with a stake in the ground or plant in a sheltered spot. If you feed them well you’ll get the best out of them.

Favourite ways to use them:
Flowering period July to October. Bees love them.

Cultural history:
There’s about 70 species of sunflower, most originating from the Americas. They’re a member of the daisy family, big daisys!
