Description

Organic Sweet Wormwood. Artemisia annua.

Organic Sweet Wormwood, Artemisia annua belongs to the plant family of Asteraceae. A non-native to Ireland, this annual short-day plant is a less well-known medicinal plant. The plant itself is hairless and its stem is brownish or violet brown with 3-5cm leaves that are divided by deep cuts into two or three small leaflets. Its leaves exude a wonderfully intense aromatic scent. In bloom it has small greenish yellow flowers. Tea made from the fine leaves supports the immune system. Modern medicine uses the plants artemisinin compound in the treatment of malaria. The pollen is allergenic but its good for pollinators.
