General:
Prunella vulgaris, Self heal. This population originates from Co Down. Irish Grid reference: J538466.
Low growing perennial like bedding plant with whorled clusters of blue/purple flowers on top of stems up to 30cms tall.

Benefits:
Great for bees and moths and makes a great addition to mid length sward meadows or on its own.

Habitat:
Grows throughout Ireland, hardy. Grows in hedgerows, woodlands, edges, gravel and open ground. Not so happy in strong grass.

Sowing guidelines:
Sow from late autumn to early spring in trays or modules, prick out into bigger modules, then plant out when large enough.

Cultural history:
Edible. Flavour similar to romaine lettuce. It can be eaten raw or cooked. Particularly noted for curing sore throats. Contains vitamins A, B, C and K and is high in antioxidants.

Avg contents: 150 seeds.
